Buying fewer new things is better for the climate. That's because producing our clothing, furniture and smartphones releases a lot of CO2. If you do buy something new, you can make a donation to offset the emissions from these purchases.
Buying new things has a big impact on our environment. It takes a lot of energy to produce clothes, electrical devices or furniture. And carbon is emitted in transporting the product as well. Milieu Centraal has calculated that in The Netherlands, the average CO2 emissions from annual purchases amount to 2.59 tonnes of CO2 per person per year.
First reduce, then offset
To prevent these emissions as much as possible, it helps to buy fewer new items. Instead, buy second-hand or rent or borrow a product you need. Did you buyed something new? Then you can offset the emissions from your purchase with a donation to Trees for All. Your emissions will not disappear immediately. But you will help us plant trees that will absorb this amount of CO2 in the coming years.
Offset the emissions of items
Milieu Centraal calculated that one person in the Netherlands emits 2.59 tonnes of CO2 annually through the purchase of items. You can offset these emissions for €51.82 for the entire year. Payment can be made monthly or annually.
We use your donation to plant more trees in our certified CO2 projects, including our reforestation project in Tanzania. Here, we work with the local population to plant new forests and better protect existing ones. We also help farming families transition to agroforestry. They combine planting (fruit) trees with food and other crops.
The trees capture CO2 and increase biodiversity. And thanks to agroforestry, families have extra food and income. So, with your contribution, you’re helping the climate, nature, and people!
We use your donation to plant more trees in our certified forest projects. By certified, we mean that the project meets the strict requirements of Plan Vivo, an international quality mark for CO2 offsetting.
Plan Vivo guarantees that the amount of CO2 you offset is actually sequestered through tree planting — and verifies this as well. Tactors such as tree species, growing location and tree age are taken into account. In addition to storing CO2 Plan Vivo-certified projects also improve biodiversity and living conditions for local communities — for example, by providing jobs and income through forest-related work.
A project doesn’t simply receive Plan Vivo certification. It is preceded by an extensive assessment. The CO2 sequestration is also monitored. This way, we ensure that your donation is well spent and contributes positively to the climate, biodiversity, and living conditions of people around the world.
